Strauss – a very English captain

http://blogs.espncricinfo.com/diffstrokes/archives/2012/08/strauss_a_very_english_captain.php

Too often, a winning mind-set is confused with ‘mongrel’.  To win, to lead, to succeed is not necessarily to hold decency and fair play to hostage.  Andrew Strauss, recently retired England cricket captain, has led England to two Ashes triumphs, to the top of the ICC cricket rankings, opened the batting against fast bowlers and captained his country in a tough professional sport where no prisoners are taken.  It’s not a job for the faint-hearted or for those without ‘bottle’.  Yet, through it all, he has not surrendered the values of decency and sportsmanship.  Leaders like him, in any walk of life, should be celebrated. My farewell to Strauss is in my latest Cricinfo blog piece…
